VICTORIA TO HOST 2012 CANADIAN ULTIMATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
VICTORIA – Ultimate Canada has awarded the 2012 Canadian Ultimate Championships CUC) to Victoria,
B.C. The British Columbia capital will play host to the national championship from August 16 – 19, 2012
announced Victoria Ultimate Players Society president, Brett Prairie.
“We’re very excited that our bid was successful, and we’re ready for the challenge”, said Prairie. “Work
is already underway to secure venues, find sponsors and our tournament co-directors Kevin Bruleigh
and Alex McMillan are busy building an army of volunteers.”
The CUC 2012 will bring more than 1500 players representing dozens of teams from across Canada to
compete in 5 different divisions: Open (men's), Women's, Mixed, Juniors (under 18), and Masters (over
33).
“It has been 15 years since Victoria last hosted the Canadian Ultimate Championships and Ultimate
Canada is happy to see the event return to the city. British Columbia has a long history of producing
world-class athletes and we are excited to work with the local organizers to put on a world-class event
to showcase athletes from across the country, said Danny Saunders, Executive Director for Ultimate
Canada.”
Ultimate Canada, the sport’s national governing body, has over 30,000 members and it is estimated that
another 25,000 people play Ultimate in other house leagues. Ultimate Canada has applied for official
recognition from Sport Canada. This recognition will help further establish Ultimate and open up access
to developmental programs and grants.
